Chemical Recycling of Polymethacrylates Synthesized by RAFT Polymerization

Reversing controlled radical polymerization and regenerating the monomer has been a long-standing challenge for fundamental research practical applications. Herein, we report highly efficient depolymerization method various polymethacrylates synthesized by reversible addition-fragmentation chain-transfer (RAFT) polymerization. The process, which does not require any catalyst, exhibits near-quantitative conversions of up to 92%. key aspect our approach is utilization high end-group fidelity RAFT polymers generate chain-end radicals at 120 °C. These trigger rapid unzipping polymethacrylates. product can be utilized either reconstruct linear polymer or create an entirely new insoluble gel that also subjected depolymerization. Our strategy offers promising route towards development sustainable recycling methods complex materials.
